The Bibliography board of a research paper does compile information from both books as well as journals. But, I prefer to use and advise to review more of journals over books when it comes to collating relevant data for literature review section of a research. Just after this query by one of my students, I spent a couple of minutes to jot down the reasons for why I rank a higher position to journals than books. So, below you can see some satisfactory answers to this question:

    • Journals give updated and recent information viz-a-viz the books as the lag between the occurrence of event and publication is comparatively less.
    • The articles are peer reviewed and so more reliable information they offer.
    • The articles are more in-depth and specific towards a topic.

Journals provide shorter and quick access to the relevant information since the sheets pile up to a maximum of 30-40 pages, in most cases, while a book holds hundreds of pages.
